22. Revenue collected by the Department amounted $173,592,580, a decrease of $203,540 compared with the previous year.

23. Expenditure during the year amounted to $100,859,819, an increase of $299,529 compared with the previous year.

24. Postage stamps and meter impressions utilized to pay the fees on Certificates of Origin totalled $5,186,935, an increase of $1,282,645 as compared with the previous year.

25. The sale of duty stamps ceased with effect from 1st April, 1973, and arrangements were made for refundment in cash to be made at post offices for any unused 15 cent receipt stamps presented.

26. Payments made for telephone services provided for Government Departments amounted to $4,701,279, some $653,263 more than in the preceding year.

27. The total cash turnover in Post Office business, inclusive of postal remittance services and payment of public assistance cash coupons, exceeded 401 million dollars as compared with some 367 million dollars the previous year, an increase of 9.3%.

28. A graph showing revenue and expenditure trends over a number of years is at Appendix III whilst Appendix IV shows a simple appor- tionment of revenue and expenditure during the year ended 31st March, 1974.

Telecommunications Licences

29. Revenue from licensing totalled $1,509,892 as compared with $1,082,234 the previous year. The revenue collected on the various types of licences issued is shown at Appendix VII.

Postage Stamp Issues

30. On 12th June, 1972, a set of new definitive stamps was issued. The previous definitive issue, which the new stamps replaced, had been on sale since 4th October, 1962. The new definitive stamps have as the main feature of their design a bas-relief, by Arnold MACHIN, of a portrait of the head of Her Majesty the Queen. There is also running up the left side of the design, a panel of flowers freely adapted from a
