International Telephone Service

99. In collaboration with the Hong Kong Telephone Co., Ltd., Cable and Wireless Ltd. provides telephone services to nearly all parts of the world. Where possible these circuits are operated via the high grade satellite, telephone cable or tropospheric scatter systems. The rest are operated via the H.F. radio links. The introduction of the second dish to the earth station greatly increased the number of areas which can be provided with telephone circuits via satellite.

International Television Service

100. International television transmission and reception services are available via the satellites stationed over the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean respectively. This service is available in black and white or colour, in either 625 or $25 scanning lines per frame with a field frequency of either 50 or 60 respectively and colour systems of either PAL or NTSC respectively. Telecine equipment is available in Mercury House by means of which 16 m.m. film can be transmitted on either 625/50/PAL or 525/60/NTSC standards.

Maritime Communications

101. Round the clock services are provided on H.F. and V.H.F. (known as Hague Plan) in connection with ships' radio-telegrams and radio-telephones between shore and ships. Radio-telegrams are admitted from any part of the world for transmission to ships at sea through the Hong Kong Coast Station 'VPS'. Radio-telephone calls between shore and ships are made in the same manner as are international telephone calls.

102. Telex service is also available to ships at sea.

Public Counters

103. Cable and Wireless Ltd., has eight public counters for the acceptance of telegrams and radio-telephone calls. Some of them also provide public telex booths.

104. Telegrams are also accepted in Mercury House by telephone (Phonograms) or by teleprinter (Printergrams). Delivery of telegrams is carried out mainly by motor-cycle messengers or printergram, but some are delivered by phonograms.
