7. The introduction into service of the first Earth Satellite Station improved the quality and availability of circuits to various countries and contributed to a substantial increase in overseas telephone traffic. This is expected to be further promoted when the second Earth Station is brought into service early next year. A further feature of the in- creasing telecommunication requirement of the Colony is the growth of international telex traffic and it is expected that the demand for this type of service, along with data transmission systems, will continue to increase considerably in the future.

8. The permanent establishment of the Post Office at the close of the year was 1,942. 875 posts were pensionable. At Appendix IV staff increases are shown from 1961-62 to 1970-71.
9. The turnover in staff through resignations, retirements, transfers etc. was 90. Shown at Appendix IV is the turnover in respect of the major grades of clerical and uniformed staff during the past six years.

10. The Postmaster General joined the United Kingdom delegation to the Universal Postal Union Congress which was held in Tokyo between 1st October and 14th November in order to represent Hong Kong's interests.
