71. Routine measurement of six Directional Beacons and High Frequency Air Ground Circuits was carried out in accordance with the requirements and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Frequencies of mobile radio station licences were checked for compliance with the conditions of licences. 36 fixed, 226 land and maritime mobile and 43 portable stations were measured.
Government Telephones
72. The number of lines comprising direct exchange lines, extensions and private wires connected to the public telephone service increased to 12,016 and the number of office intercommunication lines to 1,153. The Division arranges the installations and removal and maintains records of all such lines.
73. The programme of installing P.A.B.X. systems to provide both internal and external communication for Government departments pro- gressed well during the year. Ten P.A.B.X. installations were completed. Advice was given to the Hong Kong Chinese University in connection with a scheme to install a P.A.B.X. system.
Technical Assistance to Government Establishments
74. The planning of telecommunication systems, preparation of specifications, ordering and installation of equipment was undertaken on behalf of departments in respect of 39 projects.
75. Equipment for the Port Operations Radio Communication system arrived in the third quarter. Progress with the installation indicates that the system will be in operation in June, 1969.
76. Tests were carried out to determine a suitable sound re-inforce- ment system for the Supreme and Magistrates Courts. Technical advice was furnished to the Director of Commerce and Industry on locally manufactured broadcast receiving sets for compliance with the United States Federal Trade Commission Regulations. The Division provided technical assistance to the Director of Government Supplies in disposing of obsolete equipment at the defunct Hung Hom transmitting station.
Maintenance
77. Routine maintenance was carried out on a variety of equipment including electro-medical apparatus and electronic devices for the Medical and Health Department, V.H.F. and telemetry equipment for
