86. Several prototype electronic industrial machines, intended for sale on the local market, were submitted for check on frequency-stability and radiation measurement for compliance with licence requirements.
87. Routine testing of non-directional beacons was carried out at regular intervals in accordance with the requirements and recommenda- tions of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Government Telephones
88. The Division maintains records for all Government Departments of 9,400 telephones comprising direct exchange lines, extensions and private wires connected to the public telephone system together with 820 telephone instruments connected to Private Automatic Exchanges in different Government offices. The installation and transfer of the former instruments is arranged by the Division with the Hong Kong Telephone Company, and the maintenance, transfer and installation of the latter instruments are undertaken by contract service which is con- trolled and checked by the Division. Five P.A.B.X. systems have been installed and twelve planned during the year. Acceptance tests of the five P.A.B.XS. were carried out by the Division in co-operation with the Hong Kong Telephone Company and the suppliers.
Maintenance
89. Routine maintenance was carried out on a wide variety of electro-medical apparatus and electronic devices for the Medical and Health Department, on V.H.F. and telemetry equipment for the Water- works Section of the Public Works Department, V.H.F. radiotelephony for the Prisons Department and radio, radar and special equipment on the Agriculture and Fisheries research vessels. Maintenance of sound systems and equipment was carried out on installations of the Urban Services Department, Fire Services Department, Social Welfare Depart- ment, Prisons Department and Education Department.
Advice and Assistance to Government Departments
90. Planning of systems, ordering and installation of equipment was undertaken during the year on behalf of twelve Departments totalling some 36 projects which included radio distribution, induction, loop paging radio microphones in operating theatres, P.A. installations, marine radar, additions to V.H.F. radio systems, Marine Radio Beacon replacement and a Language Laboratory. Acceptance tests on equip- ment for the Hong Kong Regiment were undertaken.
