75. In furtherance of the Department's expansion programme, which is designed to keep pace with the continuing demand for postal facilities both in urban and rural areas, the forward planning of additional Post Offices continued during the year, from the search for suitable premises in selected areas, up to the final detailed planning and fitting-out in cases where suitable accommodation has been secured.

Radio Surveys and Inspections
76. Technical staff were made available to the Director of Marine to survey ship radio stations for ensuring compliance with the Inter- national Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. 265 ship radio stations were surveyed and 102 was inspected. The Direction Finding Equipment on 126 vessels was calibrated.
Examination Certificate of Competency in Radiotelegraphy
77. First Class Certificate examinations were conducted twice during the year.
78. Second Class and Special Class examinations were held on three occasions.

80. 16 candidates were examined during the year on behalf of the Director of Marine.
Licences
81. The total number of licences issued in accordance with the Tele- communications Regulations during the year ending 31st March, 1967, was 171,390 of which 167,956 were Broadcast Receiving Licences. The total shows an increase of 2,763 licences over the previous year. How- ever, the total number of Broadcast Receiving Licences reached a maximum figure of 181,967 by the 28th February, 1967, when Broad-
