57. Seven new post offices were opened as follows:

In addition the Sai Ying Pun Post Office was moved to temporary premises on 27th April, 1964 to permit demolition of the old premises and the construction of the new Sai Ying Pun Post Office on the same site.
58. Detailed planning of a further nine post offices was carried out and by the end of the year construction of four of these was well advanced. One at Kam Tin was in fact opened before presentation of this report.
59. Fair progress was made during the year in the construction and planning of four major building projects as follows:
(a) Kowloon Central Post Office
This will be a 17-storey building planned to accommodate, in addition to the main Kowloon Post Office, the Postal Adminis- trative Offices for Kowloon and the New Territories and the Postal Training School.
(b) New General Post Office
Preliminary planning for the new General Post Office on the central reclamation continued, and feasibility sketches were put in hand by the Architectural Office. The new Post Office piers on the central reclamation were completed during the year as was also the temporary Central Parcel Office which will become operational as soon as the special mail-handling equipment is ready for acceptance.
(c) Colony Transit Mail Office and Sorting Office at Hung Hom This project is still in its early stages and its progress is dependent on the overall plan for the new Railway Terminal.
(d) Plans were also considered for an extension to the Air Mail Centre at Kai Tak to accommodate the considerable increase in air mail traffic.
