51. A total of 6,841,299 registered and insured items were handled during the year, exceeding last year's total by 697,940 or approximately 11.4%.
Local Mails
52. Constant surveys were made on delivery beats and revisions introduced as the need arose. Motorized deliveries replaced foot deliveries in many areas and additional vans were brought into use during the year.
53. 22 new delivery beats in various districts of Hong Kong Island and a total of 31 new beats for Kowloon and the New Territories were created in order to meet the demands for delivery in newly developed areas or where deliveries had become heavy due to development.
Posting Boxes
54. The number of posting boxes in use at the end of the year totalled 359, an increase of 39 over the previous year.
Private Boxes
55. A total of 11,765 private boxes were available to the public at the end of the year, 10,584 of which were rented.
Temporary Service
56. As in previous years a temporary post office was opened at the 22nd Exhibition of Hong Kong Products for the period 7.12.64 to 18.1.65.
