were connected to the International Telex System, and new services were established with Thailand, Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika, Haiti, Greece, Calcutta, Aden and Bahrain. Hong Kong/Seoul and Hong Kong/Karachi direct Telex circuits were also set up for regular terminal and relay services. The number of working channels has been increased and the working schedules lengthened to meet increasing demands.
Harbourphone
100. The number of Harbourphone calls rose sharply by 600% as compared with the total for 1962-63 as a result of the setting up of addi- tional exchanges and the increase of subscriber's units for hire. Vessels in Hong Kong harbour equipped with a subscriber's unit are now auto- matically connected to the local telephone system and each given a telephone number. To put through a call in either direction, one merely dials the number required. The use of this service was very much stimulated by the improved facilities provided.
Other Services
101. The radiotelephone long distance schedules with U.S.A., Europe and Singapore were increased. A new service was instituted between Hong Kong and Sukarnapura (formerly Hollandia) via Djakarta. Relay services via Hong Kong were also arranged for South Korea/Singapore, Thailand/Australia, South Korea/New Zealand, Taiwan/New Zealand, and New Zealand/Thailand. More channels were put into service where demands were apparent.
102. Three more telegraph circuits were leased for private use bringing the total number of such circuits to forty-six.
103. Telegrams delivered to the addressees by teleprinter instead of by messenger, and those filed by teleprinter instead of being handed in over counters totalled approximately 47,000 per month.
104. On a busy day, about 240 outgoing telegrams were accepted by telephone for transmission, and 100 incoming telegrams telephoned to the addressees before the copies were delivered. This Phonogram service is growing in popularity, contributes to the reduction of local delays, and provides a useful facility to the public especially after office hours and on holidays.
