$74.

Detailed planning of twelve more Post Offices was carried out and by the end of the year construction of four of these was well advanced. Two in fact had been opened at the time of the writing of this report, these being at Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon, and San Tin in the New Terri- tories.

75. Good progress was made during the year towards completion of the three major building projects as follows:

(a) Kowloon Central Post Office

In addition to the main Kowloon Post Office, the building will accommodate the administrative offices for Kowloon and the New Territories, and the Postal Training School. Site formation was completed at the end of the year, and contracts signed for construction of the building.

(b) New General Post Office

Preliminary planning for the new General Post Office on the central reclamation was carried out as far as was possible. In order to provide much needed additional space until such time as the new office is constructed approval was given for the transfer of a hangar from Kai Tak airport to the reclamation. This will make available an additional 8,000 square feet of working space. Special mail handling equipment was ordered, to run from the new Post Office mail lighter berths to the hangar and additional equipment will be ordered to extend into the new General Post Office when this becomes necessary.
