27. In addition the department collected a total of $4,419,446.55 from the sale of revenue stamps.
28. Wireless licensing revenue for the year totalled $3,298,918.00, exceeding the previous year's figure by $59,231.00.
29. Expenditure on all services totalled $37,126,120.34, showing a saving of $1,442,679.66 on the estimated figure and an increase over 1962-63 of $2,612,973.23.
Remittance Services
30. Money orders issued and paid totalled 36,108 valued at $4,556,604.31 compared with 27,074 transactions worth $3,744,840.29 in the preceding year.
31. There was a slight decrease in the number but an increase in the value of Postal Order transactions as compared with the previous year, the number being 1,391,233 with a value of $44,319,433.61 as compared with 1,487,235 valued at $38,604,153.42. Again most of the increase resulted from orders paid in the form of remittances from emigrant workers in Great Britain to their relatives in Hong Kong.
32. The combined total of $48,876,037.92 in respect of money and postal order transactions exceeded the previous year's figure by $6,527,044.21, and if added to the revenue and expenditure figures of the department shows a total business in excess of $164.4 millions.
33. Revenue by way of commission from these services showed an increase, the total of $155,523.02 exceeding that of 1962-63 by $3,742.06.
Stamp Vendors
34. A total of 28 additional stamp vendor permits were issued and 6 revoked during the year bringing to 357 the total number of premises licensed by the Postmaster General for the sale of stamps and air letters.
Stamps
35. Official first-day covers for use with a special $1.30 stamp com- memorating the 'Freedom from Hunger' campaign of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations were placed on sale at all post offices in the Colony on 27th May, 1963. 50,000 envelopes were sold.
36. The first day of issue of the stamp was 4th June which coincided with the opening of the World Food Congress in Washington.
