108. Radiotelegraph and radiotelephone services with ships at sea, meteorological and news broadcasts, voicecasts, phonogram service, and internal telegraph service, were efficiently operated. The technical main- tenance service provided for the V.H.F. communication equipment of various Government departments was satisfactory.
109. A $4.8M programme to improve telegraph telephone contact with the rest of the world was commenced in 1962. The new trans- mitting station under construction at Cape d'Aguilar will house 22 new high frequency transmitters. Mount Butler Receiving Station is also being enlarged for the installation of new receivers.

STAFF WELFARE
111. The Post Office Recreation Club continued as the venue for welfare, sporting and social activities of its members during the year. 112. Regular X-Ray examination, inoculations, etc. of the staff were carried out during the year by the Medical and Health Department.
Social
113. The annual children's party, a regular feature of the Depart- ment's social activities, was held on 30th December, 1962. The 520 children attending were entertained by local artists and presented with gifts.
