In the four months during which the stamps were in issue, sales amounted to 10,571,890 of the 10 cent stamp, 2,099,950 of the 20 cent stamp and 2,970,950 of the 50 cent stamp.
33. A new Definitive stamp issue to a design using the Annigoni portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and having the values 5c., 10c., 15c., 20c., 25c., 30c., 40c., 50c., 65c., $1.00, $1.30, $2, $5, $10 and $20 was put on sale at all Post Offices on 4th October, 1962. Stamps to the value of $367,138.85 were sold on the first day of issue as well as a total of 99,773 specially printed first day covers.
34. The values up to $1 are in monochrome but each of the five higher values is attractively produced in a larger size and full colour.
Stamp Exhibition
35. An exhibition to mark the centenary of the first Hong Kong postage stamp was held in the City Hall from 8th to 16th December, 1962. The exhibition was formally opened by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, Mr. C. B. BURGESS. The history of the Colony was reflected in a selective display of its stamps which included unique items from the collection of Her Majesty the Queen.
36. Over 21,000 persons visited the exhibition. A temporary post office was set up in the Exhibition Hall and special catalogues covering the exhibits were printed and sold to the public. A total of 5,173 cata- logues priced at $1.50 per copy were sold.
Private Boxes
37. Revenue from the renting of private boxes and bag services amounted to $395,466.75, showing an increase of $20,538.86 over the preceding year.
* Business Reply Service
38. Thirty one additional licences were issued during the year for use of the Business Reply Service. Nine licences were cancelled during the same period. 123 such licences are in current use.
Franking Machines
39. The number of Postage Franking Machines continued to in- crease, a total of 39 new machines being licensed during the year. Licences for two machines were revoked. The total number of franking machines now in use by commercial organizations is 233.
