known local guest artists. Rides on a mechanical roundabout were popular but the presentation of a gift to each child by Santa Claus was the highlight of the party.
Tennis
116. The Post Office tennis teams played extremely well in the 1959 Hong Kong Tennis League, the 'C' Division team being runner-up and only failing to gain the Championship by a very small margin. The team entered in the 'D' Division also played well by finishing in the third place.
117. A new competition was added during the year. This was the Tennis Singles and Doubles Championship for competition by members of the Post Office Club. The trophy was presented by Mr. C. G. FOLWELL, Deputy Postmaster General, and called the 'FU' Trophy. The competition was most enthusiastically supported and a very high standard of tennis was reached throughout the tournament.
Soccer League
118. The new venture of the Post Office Recreation Club was its entry into the Third Division of the Football League of the Hong Kong Football Association consequent on the election of the Post Office to that league by the Association. Although the team lacked experience it gave a most creditable performance throughout the season and finished in the fifth position of the division.
119. The Mail Coolies 'A' team swam away with the 'Crook' Cup at the fourth annual inter-section swimming competition held on 10th September, 1959 at the European Y.M.C.A., Kowloon. A total of 8 teams entered.
'Hogarth' Shield
120. The annual competition of the Inter-Section Miniature Soccer Championship of the Post Office Department for the 'Hogarth' Shield was keenly contested by ten teams, four of which were entered from the uniformed grade. The final match played between Hong Kong Sorting Office (Clerical) and Kowloon Postmen resulted in the score of 3 to 0 in favour of the Hong Kong Sorting Office.
Bathing Shed
121. After a series of fruitless attempts to acquire a bathing shed for the staff members, the Club succeeded in obtaining a hut on the 11 mile beach, Castle Peak Road, N.T., which was brought into use in early July 1959.
