68. Royalties received by Government from Rediffusion totalled $701,542 as against $530,950 in 1954/55. The increase. of $170,592 cannot, however, be regarded as in respect of increased subscribers to that service but to the increase in the Royalty fee from $1.00 to $1.50 per month per subscriber, with effect from August, 1955.

WIRELESS SURVEYS & INSPECTIONS

69. In accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and the provisions of the 1952 Radio Rules, the Wireless Inspectorate surveyed 183 ships' radio stations, inspected a further 122 ships' stations and calibrated the direction finders of 54 ships. The equipment at present installed in the D/F Calibration Launch is outmoded but new equipment has been ordered and will in due course improve the service considerably.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS ORDINANCE

70. General. 271 Prosecutions were instituted against offenders under the Telecommunications Ordinance, an increase of 30% over last years' figure. Of this total two were for illegal possession of transmitting stations and incurred fines up to $1,000 or six months imprisonment. The remaining 269 represented unlicenced broadcast receivers in respect of which 16 offenders were cautioned and the remainder fined in various amounts from $5.00 to $55.00.

71. 15 cases of Radio Interference complaint were investi- gated and 13 successfully concluded. The acquisition of equipment for this purpose greatly facilitated investigations.
