FINANCE

10. Total Revenue of the Department reached an all- time high of $26,348,875.88, an excess of $2,719,875.88 over the Estimate. Of this increase no less than $2,298,954.22 was in respect of postage.

11. Wireless Revenue at $1,885,185.84 was the highest ever and the increase of $338,458.84-as mentioned in my foreword- was mainly due to an increase of over 18% in Broadcast Receiving Licences, as a result of an intensive drive against defaulters.

12. Expenditure for all services was $13,832,244.98 an excess of $991,244.98 over the Estimates. In practice however, the only excesses over the Estimates were $1,419,862.73 in respect of conveyance of mails and which was more than covered by increased postings, referred to in paragraph 10 above, and $3,998.20 on Rent of Offices to cover the new Post Office opened at Shatin on 18th October, 1955. There were savings effected on all other heads of expenditure.
