96. E.C.A.F.E. Conference Post Office. Postal facilities were also provided at the Grantham Training College for dele- gates to the E.C.A.F.E. Conference, which was held there from the 6th to the 12th of January, 1955. During this period a total of 1,777 items were posted.
97. Temporary Delivery Offices. A temporary delivery office was provided at Boundary Street from 14th January to 8th May, 1954, for victims of the Shek Kip Mei fire. Another temporary office was opened from 24th July to 18th September, 1954, for the convenience of victims of the fire at Kowloon Tsai, and a similar office was also provided for the victims of the fire at Shek Wu Hui.
STAFF WELFARE
98. Leave rosters were in operation throughout the year, which enabled staff to make their leave arrangements many months in advance, and for each member to receive a period of leave according to his entitlement.
99. Conditions of work were improved as far as possible and additional lighting and fans installed. Improved footwear and rain capes were also obtained for the uniformed staff.
100. The Club House, opened in 1953, proved very popular, and considerable use of it was made by the staff. An active committee provided many attractions for the members.
101. Film Shows. A number of film shows were organized at the Post Office Club during the year, and were well attended. Films on the work of the various Post Offices and the correct handling of mails were also obtained from the International Postal Bureau at Berne, and were shown in the Post Office in connexion with postal classes which were provided for the staff.
102. Social Activities. A few dances were held during the year and were fairly well patronized.
