Cape D'Aguilar:
Stations
An extension to the transmitter hall of this station was built by Cable & Wireless Ltd. and one new shortwave transmitter installed.
Two new medium wave transmitters have been installed for maritime services.
A radio link with the main telegraph office in the city has been installed for emergency use when the cable is interrupted.
Hung Hom:
A new medium-wave broadcasting transmitter has been installed to allow for proper relief and maintenance of the other two.
Peak:
Some trouble with ex R.A.F. aeradio navigational aids has been overcome by extensive overhaul in our workshops. Additional V.H.F. channels were installed.
Wide-band amplifiers from surplus military stores have been installed for multiple reception with improved results.
An additional emergency power supply unit has been installed.
Maintenance Workshops & Laboratories
In addition to normal repairs and maintenance for all stations, work done during the period included:-comprehensive overhaul of X-Ray and other electro-medical apparatus at hospitals; reconstruction of aeradio beacons loaned by P.A.A. for Waglan Island; repair to new Presto recorders damaged in transit; various installation and operation of public address equipment, e.g. for official Scouts' Parade and in vans for Health Week; continuous V.H.F. testing with make up of suitable apparatus; etc. The workshops and laboratories were removed from the Gloucester Building to a more appropriate location in February 1949.
Lines Section
The first phase of the rehabilitation of the New Territories Police telephone system has been completed, and the remainder commenced.
Various new lines have been installed for outside broadcasts.
A new multi-pair underground cable has been laid between town and Cape D'Aguilar to replace the old one which was extensively damaged by the Japanese,
Licensing and Inspection
On 1st November, 1948 the inspection functions of the Radio Licensing and Inspection Office were transferred to Cable & Wireless Ltd. The licensing function remained under the control of the General Post Office.
