The Water Police Radio has been completely reconditioned, both ashore and afloat.
LABORATORY & MAINTENANCE SECTION.
Repairs to equipment and major overhaul of apparatus for the telecommunications services, pass through this section. Special apparatus has been constructed during the year for a large variety of purposes.
This section has also maintained the Electro-Medical equip- ment at Government Hospitals, and the installation of new equipment for the Medical Department.
LINE COMMUNICATIONS.
New teleprinter equipment has arrived and is installed at the Government Radio Office, the Royal Observatory, and at Kai Tak, for Air Marine, and Meteorological services.
An extensive programme of rehabilitation of the Police telephone system in the New Territories has been carried out; 60 miles of faulty overhead lines has been reinstalled and three old exchanges overhauled for temporary use.
Additional lines have been provided for outside broadcasts, and signalling systems were maintained for the K.C.R.
LICENSING & INSPECTION.
Numerous wireless surveys and inspections have been carried out, on ship and aircraft installations, and licences issued.
There have been a number of prosecutions against unlicensed press stations, unlicensed broadcast receivers, and illegal trans- mitters.
Broadcast receiving licences issued during the year totalled 24,164, an increase of 10,572.

The staff position has improved with local recruitments, and the arrival of two wireless engineers, one sub engineer for lines, and four European technical assistants from the U.K.
Equipment long overdue is now beginning to arrive, and plans for an extensive Police Radio system are ready.
