BROADCASTING.

Two new medium-wave broadcasting transmitters have been installed and brought into service for the European and Chinese programmes respectively.

An old shortwave transmitter has been overhauled and maintained in service. This is worn out and due for early replacement.

Studio equipment has been overhauled that but it is also much worn and due for replacement. Use is being made of outside broad- casting apparatus for studio control.

An emergency announcer's and gramophone studio has been refitted at the transmitter station.

Various recordings have been made, and outside broadcasts con- tinue to be a feature.

A loud speaker van has been equipped for the police, and public address equipment has been used on many occasions for government purposes.

A public wire broadcasting system will be installed when the equipment, long overdue for delivery, is received.

GENERAL,

Delivery of equipment which has been on order for over two years is not yet complete and some facilities, e.g. teleprinters, are consequently still delayed.

Shortage of staff is still a severe handicap in all sections.

Very considerable expansion is in sight, particularly as regards air services, policy services and shortwave broadcasting.
