HONG KONG: PRESS LINE FOR 12.30 NEWS CONFERENCE
1.
I submit a draft line for use at the 12.30 Conference.
This concentrates on the main issue of current interest in Hong Kong: Lu Ping's references to understandings between the British and Chinese Governments on the 1995 Election Committee
based on ministerial correspondence from early 1990.
2. We will be seeking separately later today Ministers'
agreement to publish the relevant documents in Hong Kong
tomorrow 27 October. We shall therefore need to maintain a
holding line for the rest of today.
