Have you made any progress on the problem of the former Republic MrChan,

of Macedonia and is this issue going to be discussed on the agenda

at the Edinburgh summit?

FOREIGN SECRETARY:

I think it will be discussed in one way or another though at what level I am not sure. I am receiving today, I believe, the report of Ambassador O' Neale whom I asked to try and find an acceptable compromise on this and who has shuttled between Athens and skopje

I have not yet read his report. trying to do that.

We will try and make some progress on this though the difficulties remain and were clearly illustrated to my Prime Minister when he visited Prime Minister Mitsotakis in Athens on Friday and

Saturday.

Secretary of State, what is your response to the announcement by the State Department of Hong Kong & Macao Affairs that all the Contracts and agreements signed by Britain without consulting the Chinese Government before 1997 would be invalid after 1997?
