Members were informed in March 1981, vide note XCCI(81)12, of the MTRC Board of Directors' decision regarding revision of MTR fares with effect from 3rd May 1981, involving an increase of 20 cents on all single ride journeys and the introduction of stored value tickets allowing purchase price discounts and concessionary rates to be charged during off-peak periods (i.e. between the hours 10.00 to 16.15 and 19.30 to 01.00 on weekdays and 10.00 to 01.00 on Saturdays and the whole day on Sundays and Public Holidays). Concessionary fares for children and students were also introduced with effect from 3rd May 1981.

Under section 6 of the MTRC Ordinance (Chapter 270), the Corporation has the power to determine the fares payable by its passengers. The purpose of this note is to inform Council of the decision of the MTRC Board to revise MTR fares with effect from 10th May 1982 and the factors which the Corporation has taken into consideration before arriving at

such decision.
