1. The Nationality Bill was laid before Parliament on 14 January. The Bill closely follows the proposals contained in the White Paper on British Nationality Law published last July.
2.
It is proposed that there will be three citizenships: British Citizenship for persons who have a close connection with the
United Kingdom, Citizenship of the Dependent Territories for
persons who have a close connexion with a dependency, and British Overseas Citizenship for those existing citizens of the United
Kingdom and Colonies who do not have a close connexion with the
United Kingdom or a dependency.
3. Copies of the Bill are being sent to Governors of dependencies who have already received considerable briefing.
