TRANSFER OF UK RECORDS FROM HONG KONG IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT
1. In preparing for a meeting with interested FCO Departments to discuss transfer of records from Hong Kong, I have been reminded of the complexity of this subject. The papers on what we have agreed so far between FCO Departments and with HKID are spread over several years. It is most important that we do not lose sight of past decisions at this end and that HKD, as the coordinating department, be in a position to remind other departments of decisions already taken if the need arises. I would therefore be grateful if you would put together a working file for the transfer for UK-related records from HKID. The papers to go on it - which I have kept
to a minimum are as follows:
Mrs Tong's letter of 31 October 1991 (you will find a copy of this letter behind folio 9 on the 1992 file 444/2). Mr Woodrow's letter of 31 March 1992 to Mrs Tong.
Mr Cheung's letter of 8 July 1993 to Mr Woodrow.
Mr Cheung's letter of 8 October 1993 to Mr Woodrow. Annex D of the MRS report.
2.
Please arrange a b/u for March 1994 to review with Mr Woodrow whether any papers should be added.
