Employment of HKID staff in the future HKBCG

We also discussed the possibility of the future HKBCG employing (or seconding before 1997) 5 to 6 Immigration Officers (who must be BCs) and about 25 local translators, interpreters and other clerical staff from our Department who had the knowledge of the existing working systems (especially the record system). You are aware that this is

a civil service issue fraught with political implications. You agreed to let us have more information in this respect so that the issue could be considered in greater detail.

your end to co-ordinate the various issues arising from the future transfer of functions and records. I welcome this idea and hope that you will let me know the details when they are available.

I might have overwhelmed you with information and ideas during your brief visit here. But with only 3 years remaining and a task of such magnitude and complexity, you would appreciate the need for early planning and agreement in preparation for a smooth handover.
