about 8 sq m plus working space and as they are so heavy they have to be placed over weight bearing beams and need to be in a temperature controlled environment. A separate microfiche photocopying machine is also required which is currently in a room of about 4 sq m. As BN (0) records increase between now and 1996 additional lectrievers will be required. No weeding of micro jackets is undertaken as most information relates to
nationality and passports. The separate paper records that are kept of naturalisation and registration records are,
according to Hong Kong Department's letter of March 1992, to
be transferred to the UK. The HKID will let us know how many
records there are and what the volume is.

As well as the micro jackets in the lectrievers back-up
spools are kept and these currently number 43,000. We need
to establish if we require these back-up spools.
7. HKID estimate that the physical transfer of the micro
jackets from one location to another in Hong Kong will take
about 3 months.
