Thank you for your letter of 4 June about co-locating the offices of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong with the British Consulate-General when the new building is completed in 1996.
As Alastair Goodlad made clear in his letter to James Chiu of 28 May, we would very much like to see a strong British Chamber included in the new building. However there is no reason why the Chamber should not be charged a fair rent for that accommodation. In other words the situation would not change from that at present where the Chamber pays a commercial rent for its accommodation. In case you have not already seen them I enclose copies of my letter of 7 June and Alistair Goodlad's of 28 May to James Chiu on this matter.
