Consultants (eg engineers, quantity surveyor and Project Manager - OVEARUP, Windrells and Swire Properties respectively) are all British.
We are aware of considerable interest from major UK and
other construction companies in tendering for the main construction contract and we will pay particularly careful attention to drawing up tender lists. The British Export
Group for the Construction Industries has been alerted to the
project.
Will foreign firms be allowed to tender?
Since the budget for the building will exceed the EC
threshold of £3.4 million, the project will be published in
the supplement to the Official Journal of the EC ie foreign firms who are likely to meet our normal criteria (eg adequate ability and resources, competitive bid and best value for
money for FCO and taxpayer) will be considered for the tender
list.
So no contracts have yet been put out to tender?
So far only the relatively small demolition contract (around
£75,000) has been put out to tender. It will be awarded as
soon as Treasury approval has been given for the project as a
whole. We anticipate going out to tender for the foundation
works and main contract in August 93 and February 94
respectively.
