MR GOODLAD'S VISIT TO HONG KONG: NEW CONSULATE GENERAL
1.
You asked me to check with OED on whether it would be logistically feasible for Mr Goodlad, during his visit to Hong Kong over the last weekend in May, to draw public attention to the construction of a new Consulate-General through some kind of ceremony at the Colvin House Site. Mr Smith confirmed that we will have possession of the site - ground breaking should be underway by then – and that a visit by the Minister would pose no problems.

A detailed model of the future Consulate-General should be ready in time for Mr Goodlad's visit. This means that we could think in terms of a presentation, by Swires or Farrells and some kind of ceremonial action by the Minister in front of the press, at the Colvin House Site. (Would we want a separate private briefing for the Governor before/during Mr Goodlad's stay?)
3. I would be grateful if OED would keep us informed on when ground breaking will commence and when the Colvin House Building is to be pulled down.
