d) Germany watch trends in
bilateral political relations
(see also EC section);
e) Maghreb/Middle East - track
development of French policy under new government, looking out for unhelpful French initiatives on peace process, ongoing caution over Iran and solidary over Iraq;
f) Asia keep French in touch with
our thinking on Hong Kong. Maximise common ground on China, tracking Franco/Chinese problems over Taiwan. Keep in touch with French thinking over
implementation of Cambodia Settlement.
g) Africa - Maintain
cooperation/dialogue/mutual
practical help (eg evacuation) on trouble spots. Diminish mutual
suspicion in this area and
develop joint efforts to
encourage regional cooperation.
Generally work for the policy based on good government criteria;
