I am writing to you urgently in connection

with the news, published by a newspaper in Hong Kong

today, that your government may be preparing to

require visas for Hong Kong visitors.

We gather that this proposed measure is in

no way related to Hong Kong - and I imagine that you

will be making that clear to the media in any

follow-up enquiries but even so you will appreciate

how badly it will impact here.

HARA Vonn mannle are naturally particularly

sensitive on nationality and travel document

matters. Hong Kong is one of the world's major

international business centres, and free movement

between here and your country has benefitted all.

Between us we have worked hard to provide mutual

visa-free short term visits for, on the one hand,

your country's passport-holders coming to Hong Kong,

and, on the other, for Hong Kong British Dependent

Territories Citizens and British (Nationals)

(Overseas) passport holders. Our travellers, like

yours, have an excellent record of behaviour.

have been no problems with returnability of those

very few who have caused a problem at either end.
