I promised Captain Sunter that I would write to you about the issue. There are several ex-patriate British (who live in Hong Kong at this school. Their parents also feel, I believe, that the British are reneging on an obligation.
All this is apart from the fact that the Chinese work so hard! That holds for the Chinese pupils in school, too they shame the British (actually, the German pupils have they same effect. The Staff regularly scratch their heads, wondering how to instil a similar pride in work in English girls; we deduce that it's our culture which is at fault, I fear.)

This is just one constituent, expressing a point of view. endorse the closer European union, whatever it brings by way of difficulty for sovereignty. It's a wonderful vision to strive to bring nations together. There was much scepticism about the League of Nations and the UN, wasn't there?
On a totally different issue: I wonder if you could bear to fill in a questionnaire for me? It's on an entirely different matter. I have been conducting some research for the past year or so into the relationship between the education girls receive and their ultimate range of influence and authority within their organisations when they are working in adult life. So far, there is overwhelming evidence that women respond better to statements of value - to sheer idealism than to naked appeals to money-making, power and passing exams. I would be very grateful if you could find time over the next couple of months to write something down. What I am sending you in the second questionnaire - there was a first one, much simpler, on the basis of which the second was concocted. I enclose the first one for interest.
