I suggested to Mr Llewellyn that part of the preparations for sending out letters to individuals might be to prepare a comprehensive list which would show their nationality status (and that of their husbands). If the Home Office were to agree to introduce legislation these details would be needed and it would be useful to have them on the stocks.

Although the Home Office position broke no new ground formally I do think it significant that the Home Secretary was prepared to talk over new legislation. Some grounds to believe that the HKG position may have a foot in the door. Worth taking a look at a further approach, carefully timed eg to coincide with the run up to a Parliamentary debate on Hong Kong, don't you think?
