When Sir John Coles held talks with his Indian opposite number, Mr Srinivasan (Secretary (West), MEA), Mr Srinivasan raised the subject of the situation in Hong Kong. Sir J Coles outlined the current position and our thinking on the way forward in the context of China's overall international position, the developing views of the new American administration and the probable timetable necessary for tabling legislation to enable elections to take place in Hong Kong.
