ADJOURNMENT DEBATE FRIDAY 9 JULI: SIR TEDDY TAYLOR MP (CON) ON ETANIC MINORITIES IN སལ་་་
The Chief whips office have advised us today that
Sir Teddy Taylor MP intends to raise the subject of Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong in an adjournment debate an
9 Friday 9 July. The debate will be taken at around 2.30 pm and will last approximately half an hour. Mr Wardle will speak for the Government.
In applying for the debate Sir Teddy Taylor wrote "following discussione I had today with some representatives of the Legislature in Hong Kong I think it could be helpful to have a brief debate on the issue of 'Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong'.
It seems that around 7000 people there will effectively have no proper nationality when the changeover takes place and the strong feeling of the people in Hong Kong is that they should have British nationality or some other kind of nationality.
It seems a real and important issue and I would very much like to have the opportunily of raising the issue in an Adjournment Debate.
I should therefore be grateful if you would set in hand the preparation of a short speech of about ten minutes duration which, together with any necessary background material, should Teach Me Griffith by close of play Wednesday 7 July.
At your request I am copying this note to Bob Whalley and it would be helpful if, in due course, you could inform Mr wheeler (ext 3528) which officials will be attending the debate.
