Successful applications

Much progress has been made in registering successful applicants under the scheme. Since the last report, an additional 42,142 persons have been registered, bringing the total number of persons registered to 45,585. This figure includes 16,270 principal applicants, 12,222- spouses and 17,093 minor children. The average family size was 2.8.
A breakdown of the number of principal beneficiaries by class and, where applicable, by occupational group or disciplined service is at Annex 2.
Profile of successful applicants

General occupational class An analysis of the 9,562 successful applicants in the general occupational class shows that the scheme has successfully included people who are at prime age, well qualified and experienced :
(a) some 89% of them are in the prime age band of 30 to
41;
(b) 57% are degree holders and 94% have professional or
vocational qualifications; and
(c) 73% have 10 years of experience or more in their
profession.
Their age distribution and qualifications are broadly similar to those of principal emigrants in 1991, 53% of whom were within the prime age band and 45% with degrees.
