OUTSTANDING NATIONALITY MATTERS

1.

I realise that you have been busy since your return from Hong Kong with Lord Bonham Carter's bill. I hope that you can now let us know where matters stand on the following:

(a) Question of British Citizenship for members of Mrs Ho's family (Keith Kwok's letter to you of 4 November).

(b) What was Hong Kong's reaction to the Home Secretary's suggestion that he write separate letters to each of the war widows? Any chance of getting the exercise underway before Mr Goodlad's next visit to Hong Kong (79 January)?

(c) British Overseas citizens. Grateful for some account of your conversation with Dr Vickers about his letter to me of 26 August.

(d) Transfer of records. You will have seen John Woodrow's letter of 10 December to Francis Cheung. Could you bring us up to date on your own discussions on transfer of documents? Also, what thought has been given to transferring the Home office team to the British Consulate General? How long do you envisage the team staying in Hong Kong? I do not see any reference to them in my papers.

Yours

ever,

Whlic
