Apart from the 363,968 BN (0) passport applications received during
the first phase period, some 19,874 applications for BDTC passports were also
received.

There has been a phenomenal increase in the number of applications
towards phase end. It was also noticed that the postal application service
has become more popular as indicated by the following figures :-

The Late Applications

Applications submitted after the first cut-off date, i.e. 30
October 1993 by those BDTCs born between 1967 and 1971 are now being examined
and assessed in accordance with the laid down special
circumstances. Those
falling within the approval criteria and supported by evidence will be
approved at SIO level. Other cases not within the approval criteria
irrespective of whether there. are any valid reasons given will require
detailed examination. The authority to approve these cases is at PIO level.
All refusal cases will be put up to the Directorate for decision.

For the first three weeks of November, we have received a total of
362 late applications, out of which 138 (38%) are within the approval
criteria. The initial profile of the 362 cases is at Annex II. These cases
are now waiting for their turn to be processed.
