Late BN(0) Registration Applications
Thank you for your letter of 8 November 1993. I apologize for not having kept you posted of the latest developments on the appeal panel.
The panel has been agreed by LegCo.
It is now
called the BN (0) Late Registration Appeals Advisory Committee. The composition of this committee agreed between Legco and us is that there will be three members appointed by the Governor and two members nominated by LegCo. will be no representative from the Administration.
There
LegCo has nominated Ms Emily Lau and Mr Simon Ip to the Committee. We have identified candidates for the other three places. The Governor will formally appoint all members when he returns from London. I will give you the
names then.
We will probably arrange to meet the members to see how they want the Committee to operate. We will propose that we circulate cases to them and let them send their recommendation back to us. We will then put the majority view to the Governor. If members prefer to meet to discuss we will arrange meetings.
To date, we have received 107 late applications. The Director of Immigration is considering these applications and has not rejected any yet
I will write to you again when there are further developments.
I am copying this letter to Mr Bruce Hebblewhite of the Home Office who has asked me the same question.
