Ethnic Minorities

Recognise the contribution made to Hong Kong by this

community; they have an important part to play in ensuring the continuing prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.

(Chinese have indicated that they too recognise this

contribution).

Stand by reassurances given by this and previous

Governments; we consider it an obligation upon any future

government to consider with particular sympathy the case for

admission to the United Kingdom of any Hong Kong resident with

solely British nationality in the unlikely event of their coming under severe pressure to leave Hong Kong and having

nowhere else to go.

Home Office reviewing Legco's request for further consideration of the case for British citizenship for those

Hong Kong residents of non-Chinese race who have solely British nationality. Understand you will call on the Home

Secretary and Mr Wardle.
