to children who now have reached the age where they want their own passport. Would they not be able to release passports that had been left by mistake before 1 July 1997?
On a separate point, we have been thinking about the benefit that a British citizen might obtain by registering as a BN(0).
As may be seen from the attached table, a dual BC/HKBDTC who is unable to transmit BC status to his children born on or after 1 July 1991 who would therefore otherwise be stateless, would benefit from registering as a BN(0) because those children would then automatically become BOCS under Article 6(2) of the 1986 Order. Furthermore his grandchildren would have an entitlement to registration as BOCS if they too would otherwise be stateless and Article 6(4) requirements were met. There would be no advantage in respect of children born before' 1 July 1997 who would otherwise be stateless from that date because they would in any case automatically become BOCs under Article 6(1).
