Dr Josef Zieleniec, Czech Foreign Minster leading a delegation of 35 (including 4 other officials, 21 businessmen and 9 journalists) originally intended to visit Hong Kong on 27 and 28 June 1993. We arranged a one-day programme each for the official party and business delegation (programmes at Annexes A

& B).

(a) the FCO by the Czech Embassy in London;

(b) the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in

Brussels by the Mission of the Czech

Republic to the European Community in Brussels;

representative in Vienna by the Czech Trade

representative there; and

our

Director of Protocol by the Czech

Councillor in Beijing.

While we appreciate that the Czechs were keen to secure all possible assistance for the visit, the pre-visit arrangements could have been sorted out much more effectively if only one

channel were used.

The Czechs' arrival was delayed by Typhoon Koryn and their private jet eventually landed Hong Kong around noon, Monday, 28 June 1993. They departed at 7:00 pm on same day as

scheduled.
