A special pit of 2.5m3 in East Sha Chau (North Lantau) has been designated for the disposal of contaminated mud arising from WKR and other sources. Mud is being bottom-dumped and covered with layers of uncontaminated mud.

As the first pit will reach capacity in mid-July, funds for a second pit, also located in East sha Chau, were approved by FC on 24.5.93.

To reduce noise impact on the Mei Foo Sun Chuen and Nam Cheong Estates, environmental buffer zones, at least 150m wide, will be provided, and interim soft landscaping works will be undertaken.
