MR GOODLAD'S VISIT TO HONG KONG: 29 MAY
1 JUNE 1993
BRIEF NO. 15
CHECKLIST FOR MEETING WITH JAMES CHIU, CHAIRMAN OF THE BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN HONG KONG
<
Points to Make
We are keen to include the British Chamber of Commerce in the new Consulate General building if that can be arranged.
As you know there are some technical difficulties over the lease which we are looking at.
Understand that the architects will be able to expand the area allocated to the Chamber's use (from 107 to 200 sq.m).
You will understand that for public expenditure reasons we shall need to charge the British Chamber of Commerce a fair rent for the space they occupy.
[If pressed]
Afraid that there is no possibility of public money being
used to give the Chamber rent free space.
[Surprised that successful companies like yours should expect HMG to subsidise them].
