ASIA: ANGLO-GERMAN TALKS
1.
When I was in Cambodia for the core group meetings,
I received considerable support for the pragmatic line that we were enjoined to take from Dr Claus Zeller. At the end of the
meetings, Dr Zeller said that he was looking forward to a continuation of our talks in April, and he would like to invite me to Bonn some time after the holiday period. I told Dr Zeller that I thought that ministerial travel during the parliamentary recess would keep me fairly busy during September, but that come October a short visit to Bonn might be possible, and I too would welcome the opportunity to carry forward our exchange of views on a wide range of Asian topics.
2. It is good that the Germans thought the April talks were sufficiently worthwhile to merit continuation. After August we can no doubt be in touch with them again about possible dates and an agenda. At the same time we might perhaps consider the size and shape of our team.
