Very grateful for Administration's appreciation of importance
to Hong Kong of renewal of China's MFN status and willingness to
take this into account.
We are glad that the conditions for renewal in 1994 are
general in nature and should be achievable.
Believe it was wise to address US concerns about China's proliferation activities and trade surplus by use of other instruments at your disposal.
Hope we and the Hong Kong Government can continue to work closely with you on this issue, particularly in run-up to 1994
renewal.
