MISS VIRGINIA KAMSKY

As a belt and brace exercise I thought I should ensure that you were in the picture about a recent meeting between Sir Robin Renwick and Miss Virginia Kamsky.

Miss Kamsky was recommended to the Prime Minister by Ronnie Grierson as one of the people consulted by Clinton about China and Hong Kong. (She was also one of the candidates for Assistant Secretary for Far Eastern Affairs at the State Department but withdrew her candidacy, and I see Winston Lord has now been nominated Washington telno 110). The Prime Minister thought it would be useful for the Ambassador to meet her in Washington. Sir Robin duly had lunch with her on 17 January and has sent a copy of the record of the meeting and some biographical details to Tony Galsworthy.

Given the slight misunderstanding of where Tony fits into the system, and that I know Tony is leaving Hong Kong, I attach a further copy just to be on the safe side.

You will see that Miss Kamsky will be visiting Hong Kong between 6/8 February and that Sir Robin has suggested she get in touch with Tony Galsworthy. You and/or William Ehrman may also wish to consider meeting her.
