At the Japanese National day last night, Mr Takahashi told me that the Japanese Foreign Minister would be visiting China from 7-9 January. If there were any points we wanted him to make, they would be very happy to have briefing from us in advance of his visit.
2. Grateful if Mrs Barnes-Jones could consider nearer to Christmas whether we should recommend taking the Japanese up on this offer. My own instinct is that it can do no harm to continue to urge friends and allies to make the obvious points to Chinese counterparts.
