I refer to your letter of 13 July to Mr Whitney.
The answers to your questions are as follows:
(a) The three previous Governors were all entitled to Diplomatic Service pensions and continued making contributions to Diplomatic Service pension schemes during their periods as Governors.
(b) These pensions are paid by HMG (the Paymaster General)
(c) The lump sum payments in respect of these pensions are tax free, but the pensions themselves are not tax free.
